)
a) Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? (v.1-2)
The more serious a sinner I am, God gets more glory for justifying me
Should I sin more to glorify God then?
No! Why should dead men sin?
b) Have you been to a funeral or a wedding?
Funeral – the person is already dead, but we’re acknowledging his death
Ring exchange at the wedding – when they exchanged their vows before God, they were already married, but the ring symbolizes what just happened
c) Baptized into Christ’s death (v.3-6)
Baptism – identifying with Jesus’ death on the cross
Water immersion – symbol of being buried with Christ
It’s your own funeral for your old self
Spiritual reality: your old self died with Jesus 2000 years ago
d) Baptized into Christ’s life (v.7-11)
Death can only get you once
Walk in newness of life – heaven is always a “new” place
not the same old you, but new you whose identity is in Jesus
how do you identify yourself?
Why do we need to die to sin?
So we can live to God
Do you consider yourself dead to sin?
If you still react to it, your old self is not dead yet
Daily consider it dead! Otherwise it’s like trying to make a zombie out of yourself

2. Every Christian gets baptized
a) v.3-4: Paul assumes every Christian has been baptized
Funeral is not what kills you – baptism doesn’t save you
Everybody gets a funeral – every Christian gets baptized
b) Why should I get baptized?
Jesus commanded
You get to identify with what Jesus did on the cross and in the tomb
Public testimony
When you publicly testifies it becomes more real in you

3. Slaves of sin or righteousness (Romans 6:12-22closeRomans 6:12-22

)
a) Do not let sin reign in your mortal body (v.12-14)
Sin was your old boss, but not any more
Don’t let it boss you around! Say no!
Presenting your body as an instrument to sin – “here you go, please use it”
How did sin boss you around?
By pointing what you can and cannot do
Law: Is it OK to do this?
Grace: I want to do what pleases God
b) Why is it NOT OK to keep on sinning if I’m not under law? (v.15-18)
If you do, you still belong to sin and not to God
Sin makes a slave without you knowing about it
If you still want to keep on sinning, you haven’t obeyed the doctrine from your heart
c) What fruit did you have then? (v.19-22)
If you still think disobeying God gives you pleasure, you’re wrong
In the long run, it only leads to misery, depression, unnecessary suffering, destruction, and death
Not just destruction and death to yourself but others too
You can never be satisfied with sin
“I want more. If I just get a little bit more, I might be happy!”
More lies to make it all good, etc
d) Why am I still not dead to sin?
“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” (Romans 13:14closeRomans 13:14

a) Therefore – Because we can be justified by faith
Not based on anything we do, have done, or will do
b) The grace gives us a standing and hope of the glory of God
How do you get that grace?
By faith – do you believe God will do what He said?
Do you seek the glory of God?
Glory of God – The revelation of who He is & All His goodness
c) Tribulation to Hope
God is faithful, but you don’t know that for sure until you’ve had a chance to trust Him
Hope is based on confirmed faithfulness of God
Hope for the future is continually given by the Holy Spirit – never run out!
Next time you face a hard time where there is no way out, trust God with it. You may have to persevere, but you will not be disappointed!

a) Nobody is willing to die for others with premeditation
I always thought I was ready to die for my wife, but when a big scary bug came into our car, I ran
If nobody is willing to die for decent people, what about ungodly people?
b) God didn’t wait till we repented to send His Son
If He had, we would all be condemned!
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us
How do you know God still loves you when you’ve messed up?
If that is the best way for God to demonstrate His love, the best way for us to express love is to forgive others even before they repent
This was so none of us could repay Him
Be nice to those who can’t repay you – outcast, non-cool kids, etc
c) Justified by His blood
Justification was not cheap!
His sacrifice saved from wrath
Much more than when a cop pays for your own ticket
d) Much more we shall be saved by His life
If Jesus’ death can accomplish justification, His life can do even more!
Jesus’ life – interceding for us for sanctification (more obedient life style)

)
a) Is Christianity relevant to everybody in the whole world?
What about those people in Africa or in the Amazon?
Are they sinners even though they don’t have the 10 commandments?
b) Through Adam sin entered the world
Then death came from sin
No death before Adam – not possible with evolution of humans, etc
Even before the 10 commandments came through Moses, there were law and sin
c) What’s the similarity between Adam and Christ?
Adam was a type of Christ
Both had lasting impact throughout generations to all people
All of mankind was in Adam & all of Christians are in Christ
d) What’s the difference between Adam and Christ?
Adam’s sin resulted in everybody’s condemnation
Jesus’ obedience resulted in justification available for everybody
Death ruled over all because of Adam
Grace ruled over all who trust in Christ
e) Are we basically good or basically bad?
Are we born sinners or saints?
Yes – our sinfulness comes from Adam
By the same token, when we become born again through Christ, we have a brand new nature that is passed on from Christ
f) How would we share the gospel with those who have never heard anything about the Bible?
Adam, Jesus, death and eternal life would be a good place to start

4. What if I’m a really bad sinner?
a) I have done unspeakable things and still do even though I’ve heard the gospel message before. Does God still love me?
Jesus died for the ungodly sinners before we repented. Yes, He does!
If you see through this demonstration how much God loves you, you can trust Him. If you trust Him, He will get you out of those sins you’ve put yourself in. You might have to persevere, but you will have confirmation that God is faithful and you will live with hope that cannot be lost.

a) Everybody likes Abraham. What’s his deal?
Was he justified because of what he did or what he believed?
Justified / Justification – just as if you’ve never sinned in God’s eyes!
b) Do you understand this blessedness of being justified?
You wouldn’t be happy unless you know your sinfulness and its consequence
All the guilt off your shoulder – freedom and happiness!
a) If by works, the promise made of no effect
If we had to work for the righteousness (justification), it wouldn’t be by grace
God would actually owe it to us – Wrong!
There is no room for works in justification – if there was, not everybody’s salvation is guaranteed
You can never be good enough
If it’s only by faith, anybody can get saved! – the promise sure
b) Why should it be by faith only?
So it’s only by God’s grace
GRACE – God’s riches at Christ’s expense
What are His riches – mercy, forgiveness, inheritance, glory…
Then God gets the glory

a) God gives life to the dead
Contrary to hope, in hope he believed
Abraham was too old to have a baby, but had hope that God would keep His promise
God’s promise – Abraham will have tons of descendants
God is almighty – He made the world from scratch, He can make the dead alive!
b) Why doesn’t God do miracles every time we ask Him?
It must be according to His promise.
c) Did not waver at the Do you believe Jesus promise
True faith is not affected by sight
What is Biblical faith?
Being fully convinced that what God promised He would do
a) It was not written for Abraham’s sake alone, but for us also
We can be justified if we believe
b) Jesus was punished on the cross because of our sins
Do you believe Jesus took your sin on the cross?
c) Jesus rose again because His sacrifice was enough
Do you believe He can make you spiritually alive (born again) just like He came alive Himself?

a) Knowing the Word leads you to the correct conclusion about yourself & God
What good is it to grow up in a Christian home?
What good is it to know the Bible?
What good is the law if it can’t save us?
b) Can you blame your unbelief on God?
I’ve been going to church and still don’t really believe. I guess that means God’s promise didn’t work…
No! It only reveals your rebellion against Him
c) Our unrighteousness demonstrates God’s righteousness
How unrighteous we are demonstrates how righteous God and His law are
Does it glorify God when Christians sin or lie?
No!
Is it OK to keep sinning if you’re a Christian?
Are you saved? If you trust Christ, He will set you free from the sin. If you still sin after that, it’s your fault, but you can still trust Him and repent.

2. a) In God’s sight, there is no one who is righteous
Do you see how bad your sin is?
b) Unrighteousness is often seen in what you say
Your throat an open tomb? – death comes out
Gossip, slander, backstabbing, badmouthing, criticalness, etc
Practicing deceit?
Not even occasional liar. Every day, every hour, every conversation
Full of cursing and bitterness?
No blessing, thanksgiving, or encouragement
c) Destruction & misery are in their way
Unrepentant mouths lead to destruction and misery for all involved
So much destruction & misery in our youth group b/c of rumors and badmouthing…
What are you here for? To make an exclusive social club? This has to stop!
Do you see how much damage this has caused and can cause?
d) Every mouth be stopped
Nobody can say they are righteous when you look at God’s standard
)
a) Righteousness apart from the law revealed
Before the Cross, the ground is totally level
Whether you’re a good person or not, whether you come from a good home or not, or how much good you have done, your need for Jesus is the same
b) Justified freely by His grace
Justified – just as if you have never sinned
c) God did not sweep our sins under a rug
He judged them on Jesus – propitiation
It took Jesus’ blood to justify us
d) Do you understand the magnitude of your sins?
God treated His own Son like the worst of sinners so that the worst of sinners like me can be treated like His own son
Unless we understand the magnitude of our sins, we cannot understand what Jesus did on the cross
e) All boasting excluded!
No room for boasting – we should only humble ourselves and worship Him!
When you repent, your hope that things will be better must be in God and His redemption. If you hope in your repentance and your changed behavior, you are still boasting in the deeds of the law. It’s not your changed behavior that will save you. It’s still Jesus

4. Is there any point to the law of God at all? a) Yes! It points to our need for a Savior
It also shows what our redeemed life should look like

a) Exchanging the natural use for what is against nature (v.26)
Likewise men with men committing what is shameful
Homosexuality is unnatural & shameful because it’s not God’s design
Man and woman compliment each other and together they represent the image of God
c) Marriage represents the relationship b/w Christ and His Church on earth
Man represents Christ and His self-less love & leadership
Woman represents Church and her self-less submission & inner beauty (she’s the “glory of God”)
d) What penalty did they receive? (v.27)
Homosexually active people are ashamed of their behaviors
Homosexuality itself is the penalty
e) How should we deal with homosexuality?
Any sexual relationship is sinful outside marriage b/w a man and a woman
Remember how they got there – denying God
What they need is simply Jesus
We need Jesus!

)
a) Why you might be ashamed of the gospel (v.18)
b) God’s existence is obvious to all (v.19-20)
c) How would they suppress the truth?

2. Evidence from Nature
a) How big is the universe?
Earth: Baseball (23cm)
Albany to PDX: 6mm
Earth to Moon: 15 m (50 ft) – length of the 2nd floor
Earth to Sun: 6000 m (3.6 mi) – My house to church and then back
Earth to Neptune: 100 miles – Here to Portland
Earth to nearest star: 1.6 million miles
Stars: 3×1022 stars – each person on earth having 5 trillion stars each
God’s focus is still on us – He is caring and loving!
If the distance between the earth and the sun was off at all, we’d be dead!
b) How much detailed is our body?
How many cells in our body? – 60 trillion (6×1013) cells
If you build the body one cell at a time (1 sec / cell), 2 million years!
23,000 genes, each gene containing ~100,000 nucleotides
NT contains ~180,000 words
Huge machineries in each cell to construct each protein coded by each gene
The Creator paid attention to all the details
Each cell contains 1014 atoms (100 trillion atoms)
In an atom, electrons, neutrons, protons, etc.
“strong force” binding neutrons & protons
If any of these forces were off by a little bit, we wouldn’t exist!
God’s care and attention is both macro and micro (Omnipresence & omniscience)
c) Bombardier beetles
When disturbed, sprays boiling water and toxic chemical (quinone)
Two sacs of chemicals: hydrogen peroxide and hydroquinone
Adds catalase and peroxidase enzymes at the right timing to a mixture of the above two chemicals
Any of these processes goes wrong → death!
d) Global flood
This world currently sucks, but the Bible says it wasn’t always that way
The flood changed everything – taller mountains, more oceans, less air, less protection, etc
If a global flood happened, there should be layers of sediments with a bunch of dead bodies in them…. and yes there are!
e) Other examples pointing to creation
Conservation of momentum – planets etc rotating in different ways
No new comets, stars, etc
Expansion of universe – as the Bible says…
“I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded. “ (Isaiah 45:12closeIsaiah 45:12

)
No transitional fossils

3. Evidence from Judgment on men
a) When you don’t glorify God or thank Him…
b) That “darkness” judgment makes you foolish
c) My personal testimony
Grew up agnostic, hating religions
Hardcore atheistic evolutionist – wanted to suppress the truth
Combination of the Word & hardship led me to Jesus
So thankful that God had mercy on me

4. So what will you do about your Creator?
a) You are not an accident or a mistake!
b) Let God make you a born-again person in Christ!
